Calling All Nature Lovers and Bug Enthusiasts! Friends of Bugs, Birds, and Beyond!

This year, as in previous years, we will be going to Box Tree Park (Harrow Weald Recreation Ground) at High Rd, Harrow HA3 6EJ, meeting at 11:00. This will probably last until 13:00.

This year’s Mitzvah Day project is all about embracing the little creatures that keep our world buzzing (literally) and making our local park a haven for bugs, birds, and humans alike! This is the starting stage of a project we’ve been planning, and this Mitzvah Day, we will begin laying the foundation for a blooming spring. Mitzvah Day is a day when Jewish people give their time to help others, but it’s not just people from the Jewish faith who celebrate Mitzvah day, people from lots of different religions get involved too. The day is dedicated to doing good things for other people in our communities.

Litter Picking
We are planning to banish rubbish and trim back those overgrown areas behind the ParkLife Café, all while having a laugh and maybe spotting a bug or two along the way (they’ll be cheering us on and thanking us!).

Park Wellbeing
We’ll be clearing the overgrowth in the area around and behind the café to prepare for seeding. We’re not just planting a few flowers here and there; we’re creating a whole ecosystem. Birds, small animals, and bugs will be moving in, with penthouse suites available by spring 2025. We hope that this year’s foundation work will be the start of a transformation into a natural wonderland!

The Bug Squad Project
We’ve teamed up with nature’s finest people to create a paradise for bugs and their bird buddies. Think of it as Airbnb for bugs—but much cooler.

A Vegetable Wall
Ever seen veggies growing vertically? Neither have the bugs. This wall will not only wow the insects but also provide fresh goodies for the café.

Bee Hives: Buzz-worthy!
We’re setting up bee hives that will be the envy of bees everywhere. You may never have seen hives quite like these! Because everyone deserves to stop and smell the roses, even bees!

Chill in the zone made by humans for the bugs. We hope the area will become a space of sanctuary for all—a place to relax, learn, and get involved while enjoying a bug’s-eye view of their new digs.

Inclusion of all ages, beliefs and backgrounds, either as individuals, or part of a group.

Please register in advance so that we can advise the café owners of approximate numbers, and be part of the community that help bugs feel like VIPs, all while making the park sparkle and shine.
