This year our High Holy Days at EHRS will give you the opportunity to enjoy your Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur just as you have for many years at the Synagogue, but there will also be opportunities on Yom Kippur to build your experience of these special days with new style services and learning if you wish.
The times of the main Services for High Holy Days are listed on the tickets, as are the times of the many children’s, family, youth and young adult services.
You will find further information on our services and activities below.

Yom Kippur Open Space (for 6-13s) open 10:30 - 18:30
Throughout the day on Yom Kippur EHRS’s Youth and Education leaders are running activities to help give the day meaning and significance in young people’s lives. Just drop in anytime to our tent between the Beit Tefillah (Synagogue) and Community Centre to be with us.
Yom Kippur Musaf (Additional Service) 13:40
Our Musaf service, as always is the dramatic service in which we remember the Temple service for Yom Kippur. As part of recognising the loss and development from this ritual, we remember those who lost or dedicated their lives for Kiddush HaShem (the sanctification of God’s name). We will include new remembrances from the upcoming Reform Judaism Machzor.
Yom Kippur Adult Discussion 14:00 - 15:15
An open discussion led by Rabbi Kraft. Using contemporary readings and poetry, we will use these writings to help spiritually and practically prepare ourselves for the end of Yom Kippur and for the year ahead.
Yom Kippur Minchah (Afternoon Service) 15:25
Our service in which we hear Torah and the Book of Jonah.
Yom Kippur Study Session 16:10 - 17:05
Yom Kippur asks us to change for the better but what motivates us to actually follow through? A Mussar (Jewish ethics) study session with Rabbi Mark using texts from the past 1000 years.
Yom Kippur ‘New Machzor’ Yizkor 17:15
This alternative Yizkor will use the text of the draft Reform Judaism Machzor to ask today’s questions of remembrance. (in the Upper Synagogue)
Yom Kippur Meditative Neilah 18:05
Join Rabbi Mark for an opportunity to experience the closing of the gates in a quiet space with prayer, poetry, Kabbalistic mystical text and Jewish meditation, enabling us to take the closing hour into our souls. We will return to the Beit Tefillah (Synagogue) in time for the final Avinu Malkeinu and blow of the Shofar to end Yom Kippur. (in the Upper Synagogue)
Community Havdallah 19:15
For all who would like to join our Rabbis, we will be making Havdallah, the short concluding ceremony for Yom Kippur, in the space where we will build our Sukkah in the coming week.
